How would you describe the above statement?
I am calling this a statement because its not a complete sentence and it does give a meaning to the context and the content.
For me, the statement involves anything from the usage of a word in a derogatory way to the actual act of harrasment - ranging from touching to rape.
There need not necessarily be a previously decided intent to commit an offence. The availability of an opportunity also can spur a remark.
I believe every individual has his / her own sense of dignity and self respect which should be respected at all times under all circumstances.
Failure to do so irrespective of whatever level in an organisation you are at amounts to a complete disregard for human values.
Under no circumstances should any instance of harrasment be taken lightly. The same should be reported to your immediate superior. If no action is taken at that end, escalate the matter to the concerned ombudsman in your organisation. I am not saying make a hue and cry about what has happened, but things can be taken up in a more subtle yet firm manner. Ensuring that some kind of action is taken, which serves as a lesson, thereby reducing the chances of any repeat action.
