The Indian Summer - Romancing the vibrancy

The beginning of summer in India marks the onset of new beginnings across all lives - plants, animals, birds and bees. It marks the auspicious beginning of the New Year across households in the months of March - April. Its the time when trees sprout new leaves, flowers bloom in all their glorious hues, birds sing and chirp heralding the arrival of new tidings and new lives are being created or have been created. Summer to me has always been the best season because I've grown up looking at the brilliant yellows, vibrant reds, soothing pinks and lavenders blissfully unaware of the searing Hyderabad heat! This season continues to charm me in Mumbai as I add more colours, more vibrancy and more life to my eternal romance with Summer!

LEAD

I happened to visit one particular centre of this organization at Airoli on 10th Mar’2012. A friend was conducting a story telling session for a group of children. These children belonged to the nearby slum dwellers and were a
motley group of boys and girls ranging from 5 to 12 yrs of age.
While my reason to go all the way from Kandivali to this place was to critique my friend’s story telling session (this being her first), I was also hoping to get some pictures of strong enterprising women who could
display a sense of leadership in this facet of their work.
Unfortunately, this visit to the NGO did not help me in the way I was expecting it to, but it did give me a very different perspective as to what it is that an NGO strives to do.
